Dr. Eric Yang, VOC Faculty

William Elliott, MD, PhD

Dr. William Elliott is a distinguished Professor of Preventative Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Pharmacology, the Head of the Division of Pharmacology, and the Chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in Yakima, Washington. He received in bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and then earned his M.D. and Ph.D. in Bio-Organic Chemistry from the University of Chicago, in Illinois. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine and Pharmacology at Barnes Hospital and Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Elliott completed his fellowship in Pharmacology in the Department of Pharmacology – Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Elliott is board-certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, in Clinical Pharmacology by the American Board of Clinical Pharmacology, and in Hypertension by the American Board of Hypertension Specialists.  

Dr. Elliott served as a member of the faculty at the University of Chicago from 1985 – 1992. He then served the next 17 years on the faculty in a variety of roles at RUSH Medical College, Chicago, Illinois. In 2008, he started his career as a Professor at the Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, where he remains today.

Dr. Elliott is one of the inaugural “Specialists in Clinical Hypertension” and is a Fellow of the American Society of Hypertension. He contributed to five topics on the Sixth Report of the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure (JNC VI), as well as to the “long version” of JNC 7. He has authored more than 250 published abstracts, 28 Letters to the Editor, 160 peer-reviewed publications, 190 book chapters, and one book review.  

Dr. Elliott belongs to many professional societies interested in clinical pharmacology and hypertension, including fellowship in the American Heart Association’s Council on High Blood Pressure Research. He has lectured on five continents, participated in the review process for many journals, societies, national board examinations, study sections, and funding agencies, and served as Editor or Co-Editor for many books, monographs, and symposia. Dr. Elliott’s most valued honors are thirty-nine awards for teaching excellence from 1974 – 2025.
