Medication Management of Geriatric Patients in the Family Medicine Setting
This presentation on “Geriatric Pharmacology” will focus on the unique pharmacological considerations necessary for effectively managing medications in older adults. Attendees will explore the physiological changes that occur with aging, which can affect drug absorption, metabolism and therapeutic outcomes. The session will cover common challenges in geriatric pharmacotherapy, including polypharmacy, adverse drug reactions, and the need for individualized dosing strategies. Participants will also learn about tools and guidelines for assessing medication appropriateness, as well as strategies to optimize pharmacological treatment plans while minimizing risks. By the conclusion of the presentation, healthcare professionals will be better equipped to navigate the complexities of prescribing for geriatric patients, ensuring safe and effective pharmacological management that enhances their overall quality of life. All physicians who treat older adults should attend this program.
