Pain Management - Safe Prescribing Practices
This presentation aims to equip physicians with essential knowledge and strategies for responsibly managing patients’ pain while minimizing the risks associated with opioid use and other medications. It will begin by highlighting the prevalence of pain as a significant public health concern and the importance of effective pain management in improving quality of life. Key topics will include understanding the multimodal approach to pain management, incorporating non-opioid therapies, and recognizing when opioid prescriptions are appropriate. The presentation will also address the importance of patient assessment, the use of risk assessment tools, and the implementation of the CDC guidelines for prescribing opioids. Furthermore, it will emphasize essential communication strategies for discussing treatment options with patients, including setting expectations and monitoring for potential misuse. Finally, participants will engage in case discussions to reinforce best practices and collaborative approaches to create a safer prescribing environment, ultimately enhancing patient care in pain management. All physicians should attend this program.
