Call for Help: Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Resources to Help

This presentation on Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Requirements will focus on empowering physicians with the critical skills needed to identify and respond to cases of child abuse effectively. Attendees will learn to recognize the various forms of abuse—including physical, emotional, sexual, and neglect—while gaining insight into the specific signs and behavioral changes that may indicate victimization. The presentation will outline the legal obligations that healthcare providers must adhere to when they suspect abuse, emphasizing the specific reporting requirements in different jurisdictions. Furthermore, practical guidance on how to create a safe and supportive environment for children to disclose abuse will be provided, alongside strategies for compassionate and effective communication with both the child and their caregivers. Participants will also be introduced to available resources and training opportunities that can enhance their ability to support vulnerable children. By the conclusion of the session, physicians will be equipped to recognize signs of abuse, navigate reporting processes confidently, and play an integral role in safeguarding children’s welfare in their communities. All physicians should attend this program. Pediatrician’s, family physicians, and any other physicians who treat children should attend this training.
