July K. Jean Cuevas, MD, FAAP

Dr. Jean Cuevas is a native of the Dominican Republic and graduated from medical school at Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) in Santiago, Dominican Republic. She worked for several years as a medical provider in Santiago for a hospital foundation, treating children with congenital heart disease, and she was an Assistant Professor at PUCMM. In 2015, Dr. Jean Cuevas completed her residency in Pediatrics at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the South Bronx in New York. This is where she found her passion and calling in Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP). She then completed her fellowship in Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics at Children’s Mercy Kansas City. After completing her fellowship, she was a Clinical Assistant Professor at Children’s Mercy Kansas City for six years. Dr. Jean Cuevas worked with patients with special needs, who had mental and developmental-behavioral concerns. Dr. Jean Cuevas was the Program Director for the DBP fellowship program from 2022 to 2024. 

Dr. Jean Cuevas joined the University of Missouri in the Department of Child Health as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in 2024. She is also a Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrician at the Thompson Center for Autism & Neurodevelopment and the Associate Program Director for the DBP fellowship program. She is board-certified in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. 

Dr. Jean Cuevas has experience in a variety of neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, developmental delays, and anxiety in children. She enjoys working with all age groups in pediatrics, but birth to 4 years of age is her favorite group. Dr. Jean Cuevas enjoys completing developmental evaluations in young children as well as managing medical and behavioral ADHD and anxiety. Her future research interests include neurodiversity in minoritized groups and access to care for Spanish speakers. 

Dr. Jean Cuevas was a 2022 & 2023 Rockstar Hall of Fame recipient and was honored for being among the highest-rated physicians by her patients. She received the Young Physician of the Year Award from the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) in 2022.
