Ricardo Azziz, MD, MPH, MBA
Dr. Ricardo Azziz is a physician, educator, scientist, and executive with over 25 years of leadership experience in higher education, research, and academic health. He serves as Principal of Tellurian Global, LLC, and provides management and strategic consulting services to the healthcare, biotechnology, and higher education & academic industries. He’s also the Principal of Strategic Partnerships in Higher Education (SPH) Consulting Group. Dr. Azziz is also the Executive Director of the Foundation for Research and Education Excellence and the Director of the Center of Higher Education Mergers & Acquisitions (CHEMA). He is also on the faculty of the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Albany, SUNY.
Dr. Azziz served as President of the Georgia Health Sciences University (GHSU) and was then tasked with creating the state’s only public academic health center, serving as founding CEO of the Georgia Regents Health System (GRHS, now Augusta University Health System). He then led the successful consolidation of GHSU and Augusta State University to create Georgia Regents University (GRU, now August University), serving as founding President.
Dr. Azziz received his medical degree from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He completed his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Azziz then completed his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland, in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Dr. Azziz earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Azziz is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is also a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Azziz is a sought-after thought leader in higher education, a successful clinical & translational researcher. He has served in many roles as an executive leader and has had numerous professional appointments as a faculty member and scholar. Dr. Azziz also has numerous appointments to regional, national, and international boards and other entities. He was on the guideline development group for Monash University, which helped develop the International Evidence-Based Guidelines for the Assessment and Management of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. He received the PCOS Challenge International Researcher of Influence Award in 2022, as well as many other awards throughout his career. He has authored more than 500 publications, with a research focus on biomedical sciences. He is a recognized expert in female reproductive disorders, particularly androgen excess and polycystic ovary syndrome.
Dr. Azziz is an accomplished visual artist. He primarily creates pen-and-ink drawings in the surrealist style of the 20th century. He is married and has three kids.
Dr. Azziz discloses that he is a consultant for Postera and Spruce Biosciences. He also discloses that he is an advisor for Core Access Surgical Technologies. All relevant financial relationships have been mitigated.
